This Fireside Chat brings together leading African MRI physicists, radiologists, and technologists to reflect on four decades of progress in MRI research, innovation, access, and education across the African continent. Panelists will share their experiences expanding MRI technology and training, including the development of low-field MRI systems and efforts to build MRI capacity across diverse healthcare settings. The discussion will highlight initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure, fostering professional networks, and increasing African representation in the global MRI community, including the establishment of the ISMRM African Chapter. The session will conclude with perspectives on current challenges and future opportunities, and the role ISMRM can play in addressing geographic and economic barriers.
